What is an Influencer?

Although there are slight variations in how to define an 'influencer,' for the purposes of this study influencer is defined as an ordinary internet user who has accumulated a large following in a specified niche, and is commonly working with brands to monetize their influence.

The following sections will provide a brief synopsis on the current landscape and dialogue surrounding influencers from a scholarly perspective.
